Canadian folk rock/alternative country band Blackie and the Rodeo Kings have enjoyed widespread success in their home country.  With their acoustic-flavored eighth album, South (due in January), recorded entirely at guitarist Colin Linden’s home in Nashville, the band looks to conquer the globe. A limited edition 7″ vinyl with the tracks “South” and “North” will be released on October 29.

Linden is behind the autobiographical title track. “I wrote ‘South’ reflecting on my parents’ move from Canada to the US, and my wife and I making the same move (though further south…) many years later,” he says.

“The song was recorded like all the others – quickly and with no overdubs,” Linden’s bandmate Stephen Fearing says. “Just the band sitting around a bunch of mics in a small room, guitars bleeding into vocal mics and vocals leaking into drum mics. It was Tom’s idea to call the record South… we all felt that the title embodied the spirit of making this record – heading down to the warmth and familiar surrounds and traditions of Colin’s house and home in Nashville.”
