Sunday night belongs to Carrie Underwood. The best-selling country artist returned to Sunday Night Football for the 12th straight year for her highly-anticipated performance of “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night.” Week 5 of the NBC program sees the 2-2 Dallas Cowboys facing off against the Pittsburgh Steelers (3-1) at Acrisure Stadium. However, for many country music fans, Underwood is the true star of the show. Millions of fans tuned into NBC and Peacock Sunday (Oct. 6) to see her revamped version of the show’s beloved theme song.

Fans Gush Over Carrie Underwood’s ‘SNF’ Performance While Players Get in on the Action

As kickoff time grew closer, many NFL enthusiasts wondered if the Cowboys could continue their momentum from last week. ‘s 20-15 victory over the New York Giants. Others wondered if the Steelers would rebound from their first loss of the season after being upset by the Indianapolis Colts 27-24.

Others, though? They’d been waiting all week for Carrie Underwood.

Underwood initially declined the network’s offer to perform the theme song back in 2006. Seven years later, she picked up the torch from Faith Hill in 2013. The Sunday Night Football theme has undergone several iterations during her 11-year tenure. However, it seems “Waiting All Day For Sunday Night” really landed with fans.

How Is The ‘American Idol’ Gig Going?

Twenty years ago, Carrie Underwood left her hometown of Checotah, Oklahoma, to audition for American Idol. In May 2005, she became the show’s fourth winner. Now, the “Blown Away” singer is back—this time as a judge, replacing Katy Perry.

Only a few days into filming her new role, Underwood recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight alongside fellow judges Luke Bryan and Lionel Richie. Host Ryan Seacrest also joined.

According to Richie, the “Cry Pretty” singer has become very fond of the word “sweet” on set.

“There were so many really nice, sweet, wonderful people just waiting for their dreams to come true,” Underwood said. “Sometimes you have to say, ‘Not today.’”
