Scottish born singer-songwriter Scott Martyn passed away today at the age of 60.
A prominent member of the emerging British folk scene that spawned Nick Drake and Fairport Convention, Martyn recorded his first album, London Conversation, in 1968. He soon gravitated towards more experimental music, running his acoustic guitar through Echoplex delay machines to create loops and other-worldy effects.
Martyn released over 20 albums during his career, which spanned four decades.
His 1970 album Stormbringer was recorded in Woodstock, New York with members of the Band. Martyn’s song “May You Never” was covered by Eric Clapton on Clapton’s seminal 1977 album Slowhand.
