Simon And Garfunkel Feel The Love in New York

Simon and Garfunkel break their silence in New York.

Paul Simon loves New York. As does Art Garfunkel.

So when Simon was tapped to open the newly renovated Beacon Theatre, one of the city’s premier venues, it was natural that the two old friends would reunite.

But few in attendance Friday, including Paul McCartney, James Gandolfini, and Bon Jovi, could have expected it to actually happen. After all, Simon and Garfunkel were nearly as famous for for giving each other the cold shoulder as they were for harmonizing. And yet the two iconic voices were indeed joined together at the end of Simon’s eclectic set, which spanned his entire career, from Paul Simon to The Capeman to his latest album, Surprise.

The ’60s icons duetted on “The Sound of Silence,” “The Boxer,” and “Bookends/Old Friends.”

During intermission, Simon had some barbed words for the New York power crowd, advising them to “make some deals and answer your e-mail.”
