“With a proven track record of creating music that stands the test of time, Shania is a beloved member of the country community. As we return to the Grand Ole Opry House, she is the perfect person to help us celebrate country’s finest,” said NBCUniversal Entertainment Executive Vice President of Live Events and Specials, Jen Neal, in a statement per The Tennessean.

Twain also made a statement regarding her appointment as host. “Country has some of the most passionate fans in music and we artists are so lucky to be supported in doing what we love. I am honored to host an award show that celebrates these awesome fans. Get ready for an unforgettable show with lots of big hair, glamour, rhinestones, hats, boots and incredible performances,” she said.

Shania Twain Appointed Host of People’s Choice Country Awards

Last year, the People’s Choice Country Awards held their inaugural show, which had some high points and some low points as many first-time events do. The show honored Toby Keith, at one of his last appearances before his death, with the Country Icon Award. Additionally, Wynonna Judd received the Country Champion Award.

Morgan Wallen, Lainey Wilson, Jelly Roll, and Dan + Shay won in the top four categories, with Jelly Roll winning again for New Artist of the Year. Little Big Town hosted last year, and Blake Shelton, Carly Pearce, HARDY, Kelsea Ballerini, and many more gave electrifying performances.

Shania Twain is a smart choice to host this year, as she’s not only fun and charismatic, but she’s a beloved figure in the country music industry. She has also praised genre-blending artists for making shifts to country music and experimenting with the genre.

“It’s good that we’re raising the standards for excellence in country music by broadening [the types of stars the genre makes],” she told The Tennessean last year. “Country music remaining exclusive sends talented artists to other genres, which denies country music the ability to continue adapting to pop music’s trends. In addition, great artists no longer have to wait for the industry to accept them for them to be successful. I don’t want country music to lose deserving artists by not properly highlighting them.”
