Shakira Delivers Touching Rendition of “Acróstico” with Her Children

On the heels of Mother’s Day, Shakira released the official music video for her piano-soaked track “Acróstico.”

The heartwarming song is a vulnerable letter to her children – Milan, 9, and Sasha, 7. The vocalist shares her two sons with her ex-partner, Gerard Piqué. The passionate lyrics convey her unconditional love for her children and how a mother can turn heartbreak into strength.

Billboard’s Woman of the Year penned the poetic lyrics alongside Lexuz, Keityn, and with the help of the team members at La Creme. While composing the melody, they made the first line of every lyric spell “Milan,” as the second part forms her youngest child’s name.

The video opens up with the hitmaker sitting at a grand piano and delivering the soulful ballad in Spanish. Raw footage from her home is placed on full display. Towards the end of the clip, her children join her at the piano. The resilient mother exchanges verses with her son Milan, allowing him to share his adolescent vocals. Her seven-year-old backs their chilling harmonies on the piano, proving he is an instrumentalist in the making.

“This year Milan has written songs that have made me tear up, and Sasha has dedicated hours playing the piano and discovering his voice,” said Shakira on Instagram in Spanish. “Both have spent some time with me in the studio, and upon hearing this song, they’ve asked to be part of it. They’ve felt it and interpreted it in their own way and for themselves, with the same passion and emotion of a person who carries music within them.”

She continued, “Milan and Sasha, it’s so beautiful to see how you open your wings to make your dreams come true. There’s nothing else that makes me feel more fulfilled than being your mamá.”

“Acróstico” follows her “Shakira: BZRP Music Sessions #53,” which became the first Spanish track by a female to earn a spot in the Top 10. It also broke 14 Guinness World Records.
