Sexyy Red Added as Opener for Drake’s It’s All a Blur Tour

Drake and 21 Savage still have 30 more dates to go on their North American It’s All a Blur Tour. And, for the remainder of their road trip, they’ve added burgeoning Missouri rapper Sexyy Red as an opener. Making the announcement Sunday evening (August 13), the day after she performed her first It’s All a Blur set in Inglewood, Red thanked Drake for the opportunity.

“Be there or be square come see a bad (b*tch) thank u Draaaaaake,” she wrote on Instagram.

Drake and Red first met publicly earlier on the tour in July, at one of the four shows in Brooklyn, as they took multiple pictures backstage embracing each other. Posting one of the photos on his Instagram story soon after, the Toronto superstar jokingly captioned the post, “Just met might my rightful wife @sexyyred.”

Red has been one of the most frequent names in the mouths of those in the hip-hop community, both fans and artists. After collaborating with R&B songstress Summer Walker on her song “Sense dat God gave you” in November 2022, Red began truly ascending with her January single “Pound Town,” which became her first entry on the Billboard Hot 100.

She would eventually follow up “Pound Town” with a debut commercial mixtape titled Hood Hottest Princess in June, which included a “Pound Town” remix featuring Nicki Minaj, as well as additional hits like “SkeeYee” and “Strictly for the Strippers” with Juicy J of Three 6 Mafia.

On top of work of her own, Red has been able to collaborate with young, yet established rappers like DaBaby and NLE Choppa, as well as releasing “MMM HMM” with eclectic British artist Lancey Foux in July, which has garnered over a million Spotify streams in just weeks.

Just days after joining the It’s All a Blur Tour, Red’s “Pound Town 2” with Minaj surpassed 20 million Spotify streams, as it’s now her most successful song ever. Ultimately, Red’s co-sign from Drake is less about a superstar uplifting a rising artist, and more so evidence of how much Red has accomplished in such a short amount of time.
