Ryan Adams has toured his version of Taylor Swift’s album 1989 almost as much as the pop superstar at this point, but last night he gave the world the first televised performance of the album’s opening track, “Welcome to New York.” Adams’ version is decidedly less tourism anthem and more Springsteen b-side than Swift’s original, and it has shades of another of the songwriter’s odes to the Big Apple.
