The bands that appear on the new WB.com online series Rockville will be performing live during the tapings of each show.
Creator Josh Schwartz wanted to highlight these indie rock bands he will be using by also putting their exclusive full live performances online separately from the show. This is a big jump from his previous series, Fox’s The O.C., where the bands were simply introduced to viewers through background music.
Rockville, with a storyline focusing on the happenings at a music night club, will debut March 17 with four episodes and then cut down to about two or three a week until the show ends.
Schwartz explained at the Television Critics Association press tour that he has thought about expanding the show to the network if it is successful, but for now Rockville was written with a short story-line to accommodate for a low-budget series.
“I don’t know this is the final result, that we’re going to make five-minute episodes of things,” Schwartz said of the series’ future. “But that’s what makes this exciting.”
