Robert Earl Keen Turns Event into Virtual Fourth on the River

In lieu of rollin’ on the river — or tubing and sipping, as Central Texans so love to do — Robert Earl Keen will host a July 4 concert broadcast/webcast he’s calling Virtual Fourth on the River. The event, airing live from singer-songwriter Keen’s Snake Barn Movie Ranch Studio in Kerrville, also will feature red dirt roots rocker Cody Canada, pop-folk sibling quartet Willow City and rising outlaw country artist Josh Morningstar (who penned Cody Jinks’ chart-topper, “Must Be the Whiskey”).

The 7 p.m. CDT concert will be streamed on Keen’s Facebook page and YouTube channel, and audio will be broadcast on 92.3 FM the Ranch and on the station’s website.

The concert’s original venue actually was the Guadalupe river, a recreational focal point of the town also known as the home of the Kerrville Folk Festival. Offering a positive spin on the situation, Keen cheerily notes, “The best part is you don’t have to leave your yard or try to find a place to park to enjoy the fun.”

It may not be happening on the river this year, but Keen, one-time purveyor of his own Yardbird Bloody Mary mix, always finds a way to make sure the party never ends. Even if he won’t hear fellow revelers sing that famous line back to him when he performs his beloved classic, “The Road Goes on Forever.”
