Riley Green Captures the Sweet Reality of the Holidays with “Christmas to Me”

Most people have warm memories of holidays with their families. Countless songs and movies try to capture that feeling every year. However, most fall short. They usually fail when they try to remove the rough edges and human element from the narrative. Green and his co-writer Erik Dylan did no such thing with this song.

“Christmas to Me” delivers those moments of family dysfunction that are an unavoidable part of any large gathering. For instance, he sings about kids running through the house, his mom having “a come-apart” over his sister’s new tattoo, and his grandpa trying to hide the snuff packed into his lip. However, it doesn’t lean into the worn “dysfunctional family at Christmas” tropes that are so familiar. He’s not playing things up for comedy. Instead, the song feels more like it was pulled from Green’s memory and countless listeners will be able to relate.

So, if you’re in the market for a new, original, and heartwarming Christmas song, put this one on the top of your list.
