In the age of streaming, you don’t have to worry about losing $18.99 on an album with one good track and a whole bunch of filler. But who has the time, even, to waste on music that isn’t good? Who wants music in their lives, even for a few confusing moments, that isn’t what they thought it’d be? Life’s too short.

Of course, if you subscribe to Spotify, YouTube Music, or another streaming platform, you can always simply skip to another song, album, or artist. But we know that what makes American Songwriter readers different is that they want to be in the know. Like really, deeply in the know. From the moment your attention turns, purposefully, to music.

Playlists are great. Very helpful. But they don’t provide much in the way of quality curation. Yes, strike your own path, sample brand-new music, sample brand-new-to-you music. By all means, don’t be a follower. Be a forager. Go find your own new favorite artist.

But American Songwriter’s reviews can come in awfully handy as you pursue what’s new. You’re still the one who is, purposefully, deciding what’s good or not. What’s so wrong, though, with accepting a friendly point in the right direction?
