Reba McEntire And Danny Joseph Channel Ray Charles, Diana Krall on ‘The Voice’

Crohn’s disease made Danny Joseph’s life a daily struggle following his 2016 diagnosis. Days after undergoing major surgery, the Londoner-turned-Texan learned he had made it onto The Voice. Scoring a four-chair turn with his season 26 Blind Audition performance of Screamin’ Jay Hawkins’ “I Put a Spell On You,” Joseph chose defending champion Reba McEntire as his coach. Under Reba’s guidance, the 37-year-old landed a spot in the Top 5.

As the votes were being tallied during Tuesday’s (Dec. 10) finale, Danny Joseph and Reba McEntire joined forces for a sweet duet of “You Don’t Know Me” by Ray Charles and Diana Krall.

Ahead of Tuesday’s (Dec. 10) season 26 finale of The Voice, Reba gushed about her last remaining artist’s astonishing vocal range.

“He could be the growler, and the bad boy,” said the “Fancy” singer. “Then he could also sing real soft, like we’re gonna do on our duet.”

She added, “I think he can win.”

Joseph became Reba’s only hope for a repeat championship when he advanced to the Top 5 on season 26 of The Voice. Finding himself among the bottom four vote-getters, he was prepared to sing for his life. Joseph punched his ticket to finale night with a rousing rendition of “House of the Rising Sun.”

Reba McEntire Has Fought For Danny Joseph

Reba McEntire has been nothing if not tactical during her third season on The Voice. Flashy gospel singer Asher HaVon gave the “Turn on the Radio” hitmaker her first-ever coaching victory in season 25. Looking for a repeat in season 26, Reba hasn’t shied away from playing a little dirty sometimes.

Squaring off against Lauren-Michael Sellers and Tate Renner in the three-way Knockout Rounds, Joseph brought his signature rasp and otherworldly range to Susan Tedeschi’s “It Hurts So Bad.”

A clearly impressed Snoop Dogg said following the performance, “I love that growl, I love that blues, my people’s from down South, we love all that.” He added, “I don’t normally hear that on this show, so I appreciate you pulling out that style of music.”

Clearly, Snoop was making a play for Danny Joseph, but Reba wasn’t having it. After choosing Sellers as the Knockout victor, the three-time Grammy Award winner slammed her Save button, thereby keeping Joseph on her team.

“Hey, that was gangsta,” Snoop said. “You shut me down with that one. I been shut down.”
