For his debut solo effort, Alabama frontman Randy Owen enlisted the services of Nashville’s hottest super producer John Rich, presumably in order to help the Hall of Fame vocalist update his sound. It was a bad idea. Rich has Owen singing lyrics like “I wanna taste your sweet lovin’ in my damp entangled sheets,” and proclaiming that he’s going to “Ice you down like a queen,” which more or less leaves the 59-year-old sounding like a creepy old man who wants to sex you up.Label: BROKEN BOW

It was a bad idea. Rich has Owen singing lyrics like “I wanna taste your sweet lovin’ in my damp entangled sheets,” and proclaiming that he’s going to “Ice you down like a queen,” which more or less leaves the 59-year-old sounding like a creepy old man who wants to sex you up. When Owen duets with the almost 40-years-younger Megan Mullins for a heartfelt rendition of “Holding Everything”-a celebration of emotional and physical intimacy-things quickly go from misguided to downright awkward. Add in the perplexing final track “Pray Me Back Home,” which includes recitations of the Pledge of Allegiance and the Lord’s Prayer, and the result is an album that is anything but sexy.
