It’s understandable that singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, Randall Bramblett would assume a teacher-ly air a time or two on his seventh solo album, Now It’s Tomorrow. The set treats questions of mortality and fulfillment with a sense of urgency. During the mystery-cloaked “You Better Move,” Bramblett sounds like a stirred, grasping soul nudging complacent slumberers nearby. Not that he favors overt force. “Mess About It” and “Visions” show psychedelic muscle, but Bramblett’s complex grooves-shaped by his jazzy keyboard playing-are often sleepers. That-plus the relaxed nature of his vocal delivery and his sidelong melodies-may be why some know him better as a sharp sideman. And Now is the kind of album with an impact that isn’t immediately felt.
