Last night’s Soul Train Awards made for some pretty great viewing. Anita Baker was honored with performances of her hits from some of R&B’s best and brightest, Erykah Badu bathed herself in lights for her reading of “Window Seat,” and hosts Terrence Howard and Tarji P. Henson actually shined in their segments.

But the night was owned by R. Kelly, who channeled the spirit of entertainers of old, from Marvin Gaye to James Brown, to deliver this over-the-top medley of hits.

We’re not especially big R. Kelly enthusiasts, nor do we care to speculate about his private life, but watching him tear the house down last night felt like viewing Michael Jackson debuting the moonwalk, or the Godfather of Soul on the T.A.M.I. Show. You don’t have to take our word for it. Watch the video below and prepare to be shocked and awed.
