We’re excited to bring you this exclusive premiere of The Wood Brothers’ cover of Mississippi John Hurt’s “Pay Day.” The song will be included on their first live album, Live, Vol. 1 Sky High, due May 8.

For the popular touring act, comprised of Medeski, Martin, and Woods’ bassist Chris Woods and his brother Oliver, 2012 is set to be their biggest year ever, with 100 dates scheduled and sell-outs in multiple cities.

“Mississippi John Hurt was the master of mixing tradition with originality,” the Brothers tell American Songwriter. “‘Pay Day” is one of our favorites. We could never touch the original, but we tried to give it our own spin.”

As always, keep your skillet greasy, and your mama well-paid.
