During this year’s NBA Playoffs, Memphis Grizzlies player Dillon Brooks faced a great deal of scrutiny from the media for his comments about LeBron James. After calling the 38-year-old basketball icon “old,” Brooks ended up severely underperforming against James and his team the Los Angeles Lakers, who eliminated the Grizzlies from the first round of the playoffs.

After the disappointing season for Brooks and Memphis came to an end, reports surfaced that the Grizzlies decided they will not bring Brooks back to the team next season. But, just as Brooks likely felt like this year couldn’t get any worse for him, Polo G decided to add more salt to his throbbing wound.
On June 13, the Chicago rapper visited Los Angeles’ Power 106 radio show with Justin Credible to do an interview and a freestyle for the show’s listeners. Over the beat for Ja Rule’s 2004 hit “New York” with Fat Joe and Jadakiss, Polo dissed Brooks out of nowhere, referring to his fractured relationship with his former team.
All I hang with is crooks, and they play with them choppers
If he a lame like Dillon Brooks, I take him straight off the roster
Sweet ass n***a, how I can tell? The way that his posture
Lil bro swinging his stick is like he’s tryna break a piñata
Elsewhere in the new Power 106 episode, Polo told Credible that his upcoming “new album” is “on the way,” although it has yet to be given a title or release date. Regardless, the 24-year-old has already released a handful of promotional singles for LP recently.
After delivering songs like “Distraction,” “Bag Talk,” and “My All” in 2022, Polo put out “No Time Wasted” featuring Future in February, which is expected to land on the track list for his impending project. Additionally, around the time he dropped “My All” in December, Polo spoke about the motivation behind the album.
“This album I connected back to my roots for sure, the shit I came in with that I’m most known for,” he said during a December interview with YouTube personalities Zias & B. Lou. “The project got primary feelings, there’s some toxic shit, love shit, some street shit, gangster shit. Any n***a that’s been through a lot, you gon’ be able to relate.”
With his prior two albums, The GOAT (2020) and Hall of Fame (2021), Polo was able to reach Nos. 1 and 2 respectively on the Billboard Hot 100.
