Pete Yorn has a new album coming out, but he recorded three. His latest studio effort, Back and Fourth, hit stores June 23, but the paparazzi should start really paying attention to him around September — that’s when Break Up, Yorn’s new disc of duets with actress Scarlett Johannson gets a release date. Yorn also recently recorded an album worth of songs in six days with Pixies frontman Frank Black. No release date has been set for that one, but Yorn should probably take things one at a time.

According to Rock Daily, Yorn got the idea to duet with Johannson (who released Anywhere I Lay My Head, an album of Tom Waits covers, to mixed reviews in 2008) during a bout of insomnia, when he realized “‘I have to make a record inspired by Serge Gainsbourg and Brigitte Bardot and it has to be like that.’ So who is Brigitte Bardot? And I was like, Scarlett Johansson could be the Brigitte Bardot type. So I reached out to her and she was into it and we did it. I’m really proud of that record.”The album, dubbed Break Up, comes out September 8. The first single, “Relator,” is available now through iTunes. Yornv wrote eight of the nine songs on the album, and the duo cover of Big Star’s “I Am the Cosmos.” Yorn is currently on tour with Coldplay.
