Musical couple Pete Yorn and Scarlett Johansson will release their hotly-anticipated album Break Up on Atco Records September 15. The album is a collection of duets examining all facets of doomed love, in the Lee Hazelwood-Nancy Sinatra tradition.

The dynamic duo discuss the project in a new interview with New York magazine. Yorn accredits the 24-year-old actress, who released her own album of Tom Waits covers in 2008, with making the whole project go smoothly.

PY: When Scarlett came in, she gave the album a huge presence without even trying. She played the part of the female perspective in the songs—she brought an aloofness I hadn’t accounted for.

SJ: I’ve been singing for my whole life. When I was a kid I wanted to be on Broadway—I was a real jazz-hands kind of girl.
