A new behind-the-scenes video posted to Justin Timberlake’s Instagram shows him with the other four group members — Lance Bass, JC Chasez, Joey Fatone, and Chris Kirkpatrick — inside the recording studio as they lay down “Better Place” as a harmonious unit. “If we do this song, it’s a love letter to our fans,” Justin Timberlake says to his mates in the clip. “I would be honored to have the group on this song.”

“Who’s ready for a reunion?!” another member exclaims in the video.

The clip shows all the *NSYNC dudes tracking vocals for that new song, “Better Place,” their first new song released in over 20 years. There’s already a website for it, and this new clip showcases all the members flexing their voices as they build the song piece by piece. It’s a cool document, and there’s a sweetness in seeing all five of them, older and somewhat grayed, hanging out and making music together.

“So many stars aligned,” Timberlake, who seems to be in the producer role here, says. “That’s why I hit you. I was like, hey, something came up.”

“Sounds good. Sounds like it’s finished,” Kirkpatrick says at the end, once the playback is wrapped. “That’s the first *NSYNC song finished in 23 years,” Bass adds.

“I love you guys,” Timberlake concludes. “That shit is epic, man.”

“Better Place” will be released on September 29. It’ll be included in the upcoming film Trolls Band Together, which is due out November 17. Timberlake has previously helmed songs for the Trolls films — “Can’t Stop the Feeling!” in 2016, which hit No. 1, and the SZA collaboration “The Other Side” in 2020.

At the 2023 MTV VMAs on September 12, all five *NSYNC members appeared onstage to present Taylor Swift with the Moon Person trophy for Best Pop. Swift, understandably excited and seemingly perplexed to see them all back together, asked, “Are you doing something? What’s going to happen now?”

Now we have our answer. See *NSYNC back in action and hear a good portion of “Better Place” in the video below.
