Weezer frontman Rivers Cuomo’s condition is said to be improving after he and his family were involved in a tour bus crash in upstate New York on Sunday. Cuomo, who’s currently in the hospital, suffered a cut on his spleen and a punctured lung. The band’s remaining tour dates have been canceled. You can read a full account of the incident, and Cuomo’s recovery, on Weezer’s website. Get well soon, Rivers!

Billy Corgan of Smashing Pumpkins (the band that wouldn’t die) is giving away  “A Song for a Son,” from the upcoming 44-track album Teargarden by Kaleidyscope, which the Pumpkins plan to release for free on 11 discs. The song came to Corgan in a bout of inspiration, and was dashed out in about 15 minutes.

The Pumpkins frontman tells Spinner: “It’s got something to do about not having any kids and thinking about why I don’t have any kids. And then also kind of thinking about my relationship with my father — there’s some kind of connection there, but it’s not overt. I didn’t set out to write that. It just rolled out of me.”  Listen to the track here.

Let love rule in an elevator? Aerosmith is still mulling the idea of a new singer, even though Steven Tyler claims he never left. Lenny Kravitz, who some close to the band believe could be a suitable replacement, has denied any interest. “As much as I am flattered that Aerosmith’s camp would consider me to front the band, Steven Tyler is a family friend, and no voice could ever take the place of his,” Kravitz wrote on his Twitter page. “I hope the band stays together. They are classic.” Oh well.
