If you tuned into Saturday Night Live this weekend, we feel bad for you (the show hasn’t seemed this uninspired in a long time). However, you did get a double shot of new Mumford and Sons, so we commend you for that. The band peeled off high-energy, surging versions of Babel’s current single “I Will Wait “and “Below My Feet” (Review: Mumford & Sons, Babel). They also dressed up as a Beatles cover band, for a sketch whose only funny aspect was said cover band’s name: Hey Dude. Mumford and Sons’ CMT Crossroads with Emmylou Harris airs this Thursday.
Levon Helm’s Midnight Rambles Sessions Volume 3 will hit stores on November 20. Helm and producer Brendan McDonough assembled the track list out of hundreds of Midnight Ramble performances at Helm’s barn in Woodstock, New York, and sequenced them to resemble an actual concert. Songs include “Same Thing” and Al Green’s “Take Me to the River” (both with Helm on vocals), and guests include Chris Robinson and Allen Toussaint. “They made some cool, unpredictable and unique song choices,” daughter Amy Helm tells Rolling Stone. “They highlighted some of the real core aspects of the Ramble.”
Tomorrow Green Day release Uno!, the followup to their platinum-selling 21st Century Breakdown. “It may not be your father’s Green Day, but it is your disgruntled uncle’s version of the band,” writes our reviewer. Read the full review here.
Awesome Sauce: The Vespers’ new video for the song “Lawdy” is spooky and powerful. The talented sibling band (a pair of brothers and sisters) stopped by our office back in April blew our minds with a live performance. Watch the video for “Lawdy,” off their sophomore album Fourth Wall, below.
