This week’s stack of new releases doesn’t contain many “big” names. However, that doesn’t mean there’s not plenty of good music to go around. The Twisters soundtrack delivers a solid mixture of country artists. Then, there’s the new bluegrass record from AJ Lee & Blue Summit. Those who are looking for something with a harder edge will find it in Koe Wetzel’s new record.
Standout Albums
Today brought plenty of great new music. However, a couple of these records stand out among the rest. For instance, Goodnight, Texas released a killer new collections of songs today. Then, there’s the new Twisters soundtrack album with a laundry list of A-list modern country artists.
Goodnight, Texas has always created a unique blend of rock, folk, and country music and the same is true for their new album Signals. This one is a little different because when they lean into the rock side of their sound, they really lean in. The first two tracks on the album –“Dry Heat” and “RUNAWAYS”—feature fuzzed-out guitars and massive riffs that nearly go into stoner rock territory. Then, there’s a ripping solo from Metallica’s Kirk Hammett on “RUNAWAYS.” It’s a great way to kick off the album.
After the heavy opening tracks, the band slips into their normal groove. “Among Tumbleweeds” and “The Offer” especially see the band treading familiar sonic ground. All in all, fans of Goodnight, Texas will find everything they’re looking for. At the same time, fans of creative blends of sounds, smart songwriting, and airtight bands may find their favorite album of the summer
Standout Songs: “Dry Heat” “Among Tumbleweeds” “The Ghost of D.B. Cooper”
Usually, movie soundtracks have, at most, a handful of good songs on them. However, Twisters: The Album is like a playlist of great new country songs. One would be hard-pressed to find another album that features the likes of Miranda Lambert, Lainey Wilson, Red Clay Strays, and Tyler Childers alongside Kane Brown, Warren Zeiders, and Thomas Rhett. In short, it’s an eclectic but rock-solid collection of songs.
Standout Tracks: “Out of Oklahoma” “Song While You’re Away” “Caddo County”
