The “Just a Dream” artist recently appeared at the 2023 Stagecoach Festival in Indio, California, and addressed the potential partnership. While speaking with ET ahead of his set that was abruptly cut short, Nelly expressed his interest in Chance the Rapper’s request.
“It’s funny, I just saw Chance out in Vegas,” Nelly pointed out. “We talked about it. He’s serious, and we’re going to try and make it happen.”
Nelly said he’s excited to welcome the hitmaker to the country music community.
“Definitely bring him into this beautiful montage,” the platinum-selling artist noted.
The idea came about in early March when Chance appeared on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon.
“You know what? I would do it if I could do it with who I consider to be the most important country star of our time, the incomparable Nelly,” said the Chicago native. “ He’s an amazing artist. I remember I used to listen to – I mean, he made “Hot In Herre,” which to me is naturally a country song.”
Nelly’s first rodeo with country music dates back to the early 2000s when he teamed up with Tim McGraw on the hit song “Over and Over.” Since then, the “Country Grammar” singer kept close ties with notable names on Music Row and released a chart-topping remix to “Cruise” with Florida Georgia Line.
In late 2021, the genre-bending artist dropped his eighth studio album, Heartland. Upon release, the country collection peaked at No. 45 on the Billboard 200 chart. The track list is star-studded with nine songs featuring – Kane Brown, Blanco Brown, Breland, Darius Rucker, George Birge, Chris Bandi, and Jimmie Allen.
Despite his record being jammed packed with collaborations with the men of country music, he is now ready to join forces with the woman who carry the genre.
“I want to thank everybody for supporting Heartland [part] 1. If you got the chance to check it out, if not…check it out,” said Nelly with gratitude. “Basically, it’s the fellas of country. So, Heartland 2 will be more of the women of country music and collaborating with the women of country music. So, I am looking forward to that.”
Nelly confirmed that fans could expect the female-forward project by the “end of this year.” He also declared that he is “pondering all generations” of country music. Nelly did not reveal the women that would be featured on the track list.
