Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally Celebrate “Life In the Garden”

Appalachia meets Alameda County on Nell Robinson and Jim Nunally’s single “Life In the Garden,” the opening track of their upcoming House & Garden album. Grammy-winning bluegrass flatpicker Nunally sings harmony with Robinson on this song comparing the nurturing and beauty of plants and flowers with the people and places in our lives. Heretofore unexplored metaphors and similes abound in this bouncy tune that should put Robinson on the map as a writer and singer (think somewhere between Emmylou and Patty Griffin). A fun tune that will make a bunch of songwriters wonder why they didn’t think of that.

“This project came about while Jim and I were working in the studio – and it was a beautiful spring day,” says Robinson. “Jim said he’d started a song while thinking about the strawberry plants he has in his garden. His mother gave him the cuttings planted by his father, and though he passed on many years ago, his memory is kept alive in the garden. What a beautiful gift to reflect on your loved ones as you tend your flowers! We wrote the rest of the lyrics with specific flowers in mind and what they represent (love, faith, comfort) – and then the concept of the project just flowed.”
