Neko Case shocked the world earlier this month when her latest album, Middle Cyclone, entered the charts at Number Three, putting her ahead of artists like Nickelback and The Fray in the weekly battle for who could claim the most album sales.

But was it just the album art that piqued the nations interest? The cover depicts the alt-country singer/songwriter riding the hood of a classic car with a sword in her hand, and illustrates nicely the fact that Case is still a foxy lady.

In a recent interview with music blog Pitchforkmedia, Case discusses the album art (“If I were an eight-year-old boy, what would I want to do on the cover of my album? I would want a car and a sword. So I went with that.”), her band the New Pornographers, and Harry Nillson.

She also discusses her songwriting, and has this to say about her song “”The Tigers Have Spoken”:

The Sadies– who I co-wrote that song with– got really mad about it, too. “Why can’t the tiger just fucking kill that guy?” So I actually wrote “People Got a Lotta Nerve” for the Sadies, because the animals kill the people. I thought the Sadies would enjoy that. Some people think it’s a song about revenge, but it’s really a song to make [Sadies guitarist] Travis Good feel better. He was mad about it. He’s a softy.
