Eight tracks, and no “You Never Call?” Neil Young, you know how to keep the surprises coming.

The Canadian songwriting icon (and “Double Rainbow” reporter) has unveiled the track list and cover art to his upcoming Daniel Lanois-produced album, Le Noise, which hits stores September 28. We can vouch for newbie “Love And War” and “Hitchhiker,” an old favorite, being great songs.

Says Lanois of the album: “It does not have a band, but it’s rocking. And he’s really come in with the songs, they’re terrific. I dare say it might be some of his best work in some time. We’ve really hit the motherlode.”
