Mumford and Sons fans who turned out for the band’s set at Pinkpop Festival yesterday were treated to news that the band has finished the followup to its 2009 debut, Sigh No More, and will release the new album in September. 3FM DJ Roosmarijn Reijmer posted on twitter that the release date is Sept. 24, which the band then posted on its tumblr.
The album, title TBA, was recorded in March 2011 with producer Markus Dravs, who also produced Sigh No More.
In March the band released a video for one of the songs, “Where Are You Now,” which you can check out here.
Mumford and Sons also announced a series of unique US tour dates today. In select cities, the band will be hosting Gentlemen of the Road Stopovers.
In a press release the band said these one-day outdoor events will feature local vendors and community activities and will see Mumford and Sons headlining the event alongside a lineup of artists curated by the band members.
“The Gentlemen of the Road Stopover is based loosely upon our favorite festivals like Colorado’s Telluride Bluegrass and Scotland’s Loopallu Festivals,” the band said in the release. “We want to stop off in towns where bands don’t usually tour, and celebrate the local people, food and music.”
