While the world awaits the followup to 2007’s We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank, Modest Mouse are getting back in the swing of things. Over the past few months, the band has dropped two 7″ singles: “Satellite Skin” and “Autumn Beds”. Continuing the streak, Modest Mouse switches up their sound with yet another 7” single, “Perpetual Motion Machine” b/w “History Sticks to Tour Feet” to be released today, July 21. On red vinyl with an embossed sleeve, the new single is limited to 4000 copies.
The A-side, “Perpetual Motion Machine” has horn accompaniment that gives the song a New Orleans jazz flavor. Meanwhile, the B-side, “History Sticks to Your Feet” puts the brass to rest, and has more of a traditional, guitar-based feel-good beat.
On August 4, the band will offer up No One’s First, and You’re Next. The eight-track album is composed of material off We Were Dead Before the Ship Even Sank and Good News for People Who Love Bad News sessions, as well as two additional tracks.
Modest Mouse launch their latest tour, featuring Jim Fairchild of Grandaddy on guitar, on August 17 in Halifax, Nova Scotia. The band will make stops in San Diego, CA on August 28, San Francisco, CA on August 30 and in Seattle, WA on September 7th.
