Miss Willie Brown, the first group signed to New York-based A&M/Octone Records, is a country duo consisting of Amanda Watkins and Kasey Buckley. The band is booked to play Bonnaroo this summer, and has spent the early part of 2011 on the road with the Jagermeister Country Tour, featuring Dierks Bentley.
Earlier this year, Miss Willie Brown recorded their debut EP in Franklin, Tennessee, with veteran producer Keith Stegall, who has worked with Zac Brown Band and Alan Jackson. “The thing that intrigued me most about Miss Willie Brown is that they were edgy and they were a band,” Stegall said.
The song “Couyon Crazy” from the debut EP is featured on the The Country Way Digital Volume 2. The inspiration for the song came from an experience the group had in Acadiana. “This dude from Louisiana wanted to paint us on the side of a food truck and wanted us to be the spokesman for his Cajun, fast-food traveling truck,” Buckley said. “He is very Cajun and happened to use the term couyon.”
The incident found its way into the lyrics of a song they’d already been working on. “It’s not very often that you write a song and say, ‘This is a good song,’” Buckley said.
