Miranda Lambert’s Acoustic Spin on New Single Is Exactly “What Country Should Be”

Miranda Lambert doesn’t always need to go full fire and brimstone to pack a punch. Her latest single, “Dammit Randy,” is proof of that. Now she has released an acoustic version of the track and as one fan perfectly put it, Lambert’s performance is “what country should be.”

Miranda Lambert Puts An Acoustic Spin On “Dammit Randy”

On Saturday (July 13), Miranda Lambert shared a snippet of the acoustic version of “Dammit Randy” with her social media followers. The country star strums along on her guitar and sings. Yeah, now that I made it to the other side / I hope you’re countin’ singles in your double wide / Smokin’ cigarettes like they’re goin’ out of style / Turnin’ me up on your radio dial / You gave up till the very last minutе / Now that I’m gone I’ve got your attention.

“Dammit Randy” is a rousing spin on the “don’t know what you got ’til it’s gone” trope. Lambert sings about freeing herself from the shackles of an unsupportive relationship (without setting her ex’s entire life on fire.) And although the lyrics suggest separating from a romantic partner, “Dammit Randy” was actually inspired by a different kind of split.

The 35-time ACM Award winner parted ways with longtime label Sony Nashville last year. Earlier this year, she announced a new partnership with Republic Records. “Dammit Randy” is the second single from her forthcoming ninth studio album, due out later this year. The song was born from a conversation with collaborator Jon Randall.

“We started talking about how excited we were to have a new family that was excited about the music and all about the art,” Lambert said. She later added, “We were talking about the journey from going to a place where you didn’t feel super supported to a place where you did. And so ‘Dammit Randy’ was born, and the rest is history.”

Miranda Lambert knows that many of her songs are an outlet for female rage, and she’s fine with that. Still, the “Little Red Wagon” singer expects a certain level of decorum from fans. Recently, she called out a group of fans who were apparently not paying attention to her set at Under the Big Sky Music Festival in White Fish, Montana.

“I can see your head is not turned the right way, which is this way,” she said. “So, if you came to visit, you can do it somewhere else. If you came to sing and hear some country music and drink some beer and raise some hell, then we’re doing that tonight.”
