On Wednesday (March 15), Lambert announced via social media that she is leaving her record label, Sony Music Nashville, after 20 years. Lambert shared a photo on Instagram of the covers of all nine albums she’s recorded since she signed to Sony in 2003 after finishing third place on the singing competition show, Nashville Star.
“Since I was 19-years-old, Sony has been my home in Nashville,” she began the post. “Over the last 20 years together we have released albums that allowed me to share my story with the world, and we’ve reached heights I’d never even dreamed were possible.”
Lambert released her self-titled album independently in 2001, with Kerosene marking her major label debut in 2005. The Texas native shared the post on the same date that Kerosene was released in 2005. Crazy Ex-Girlfriend, Revolution, Four the Record, Platinum, The Weight of These Wings, Wildcard, The Marfa Tapes and her most recent album, Palomino, were all released during her tenure with Sony. “Gunpowder and Lead,” “White Liar,” “The House That Built Me,” “Over You” and “Bluebird” are among the many hit singles released off the albums.
“I’m so thankful for our time together and everything they made possible for me, yet I wouldn’t be true to myself if I wasn’t constantly looking for the next challenge and a new way to stretch my creativity,” the singer continues. “With that in mind, I’ve decided to say goodbye to my Sony family. I can’t wait to see what the next adventure holds.”
Lambert will return to Las Vegas for her headlining Velvet Rodeo residency at the Zappos Theater at Planet Hollywood on March 24, with shows also taking place in April, July, November and December. She also has a series of festival dates booked for summer 2023.
