After the new year rang in, Cyrus teased more clips of the new single on her Instagram, along with videos of her walking down the street in a gold lamé outfit singing I can love me better, baby / Can love me better. A second video shows Cyrus stripping down to a black bikini continuing I can love me better than you can.
Cyrus began teasing “Flowers” in December with posters reading “New Year New Miley,” along with a countdown on her website ticking down to the Jan. 13 release date.
Co-hosting Miley’s New Year’s Eve Party with Parton on Dec. 31, the duo opened the show with Joan Jett’s 1981 hit “I Love Rock ‘n’ Roll,” which was fitting for the country legend, who was recently inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and is working on her first rock album in 2023.
The duo also performed a number of duets and medleys, including Cyrus’ own “Wrecking Ball” and “Party in the U.S.A.,” and Parton’s classics “Jolene” and “I Will Always Love You,” along with a duet of Patsy Cline’s “Walking After Midnight.”
Throughout the special, Cyrus also duetted with Byrne on his American Utopia single, “Everybody’s Coming To My House” and David Bowie’s “Let’s Dance.” Byrne also joined Sia for a performance of her 2016 hit, “Unstoppable.” Cyrus brought out Sia again, along with Paris Hilton for a performance of Hilton’s 2006 hit, “Stars Are Blind.”
The show also featured a number of comedic sketches, including one featuring Parton being chased by Saturday Night Live writers, along with other performances by Fletcher, Liily, Latto, and Rae Sremmurd, who segued from their single “Applause” into a cover of the Beastie Boys‘ “Sabotage.”
