Video Premiere: Melissa Etheridge Talks MEmphis Rock and Soul

Earlier this month, Melissa Etheridge announced MEmphis Rock and Soul, a new album of covers of Stax Records classics and Memphis-inspired original music. Etheridge tracked the album, which is due out October 7, at Memphis’ legendary Willie Mitchell’s Royal Studios with producer (and son of Willie) Boo Mitchell.

The album follows 2014’s This Is M.E., as well as Etheridge’s most recent new original song “Pulse,” a song she wrote to honor the victims of the June 12 Orlando shootings.

“When I went back, I found that most of my influences came from Stax Records.” she says in the video. “I wanted to play the music that inspired the artists that inspired me.
