Medical Emergency Forces Popular Metal Band To Cancel Their 40th Anniversary Tour

Formed in Langhus during the 1980s, Mayhem gained a faithful following as the band helped propel Norwegian black metal into the spotlight. Although controversy surrounded the band due to their elaborate concerts, the band continued to perform and released albums like Chimera and Ordo ad Chao. The last album released by Mayhem was Daemon back in 2019. With the band performing for four decades, the members looked to hit the road for a celebration. But as the tour approached, it seemed the band needed to cancel the show due to a “medical emergency.”

It doesn’t matter the genre of music or the artist, no band likes to cancel a show. Knowing the dedication and work that goes around setting up a tour, Mayhem shared the heartbreaking news on Instagram. “MAYHEM regrets to inform fans that the upcoming 40th anniversary performances in North America are cancelled due to a member of the band having a medical emergency that requires immediate surgery, which will result in a prolonged recovery period.”

Mayhem Promises To Return In 2025

While canceling the string of shows expected to kick off on November 12th in Montreal, Canada, it seemed Mayhem wanted to focus on the recovery of their bandmate over hitting the road. For those who happened to purchase tickets, the band wanted to make it right by issuing refunds. “Tickets will be refunded at point of purchase.”

Knowing that some fans might not like the news of the canceled shows, Mayhem promised to make a return. “Fret not, American and Canadian legion, as Mayhem will have something coming up next year that will make this up to those of you who have been disappointed by this news.”

With the post gaining over 10,000 likes, fans expressed their thoughts about the decision, writing, “Medical issues take precedence; please look after yourselves, we wish you a speedy and comfortable recovery.” Another person added, “Nothing is more important than your health guys. Do not regret, do not excuse, some things you can’t control. All the best for you guys, real fans will wait.”
