Paul McCartney expressed his dislike for EMI this past week when he moved his full catalog of post-Beatles music over to Concord Music Group. In 2007, EMI, McCartney’s label home since he began with the Beatles, was bought out by British private equity firm Terra Firma.
In an article with The Times of London he said that he was treated as “part of the furniture” during the buyout process. Not long afterward, McCartney signed with independent California label Concord Music Group. This week, in yet another blow to EMI, McCartney moved his entire post-Beatles catalog over to Concord. The financial losses are predicted to be minimal for EMI, with McCartney’s catalog in its entirety selling a mere 95,000 copies in 2009.
