Matchbox Twenty Releases “Don’t Get Me Wrong” from Forthcoming Album; Announces 50+ Date Tour

There’s more to Matchbox Twenty than meets the eye. The pop-rockers are pulling back the curtain to display vulnerability on their new release, “Don’t Get Me Wrong.”

The mid-tempo track serves as the second song from their highly anticipated fifth studio album, Where The Light Goes. Gregg Wattenberg, Paul Doucette, and Kyle Cook all had a hand in producing the relatable track list expected to arrive on May 26 via Atlantic Records.

“Don’t Get Me Wrong” follows Matchbox Twenty’s high-energy single “Wild Dogs (Running in a Slow Dream),” which marked the award-winning band’s first release in well over a decade. Their latest hit conveys a narrative about a relationship on the rocks. Despite the heated arguments, the protagonist confirms to his lover that he’s not calling it quits just yet.

“A lot of times, when people have been together for years, you can have arguments that get really heated and keep you on edge. It’s only natural for someone to sometimes think it may be the end,” said Rob Thomas. “This song was just someone saying, ‘I know I get mad sometimes, but I’m not going anywhere.’”

The imagery-heavy lyrics are backed by a guitar-soaked melody and a toe-tapping beat that is destined to have fans dancing in their seats. “Don’t Get Me Wrong” places their signature sound on full display and solidifies their title as pop culture phenomenons.

Sometimes I’m standing where I wanna be | Sometimes I hate you but you feel so nice | I know you think I’m gone | But I’m all in, belts the band. Don’t get me wrong sometimes I know I’m gonna lose it | I’m all caught up | I’m faking | Without you I’d be gone | Don’t Get me wrong | Don’t get me wrong, the sing.

The band, comprised of Thomas, Brian Yale, Paul Doucette, and Kyle Cook, has also announced a tour supporting their record. The Slow Dreama Tour produced by Live Nation is expected to make stops at over 50 notable venues in America and Canada. The spring/ summer tour will kick off on Tuesday, May 16, at Rogers Arena in Vancouver at Rogers Arena and wrap in early August at Chicago’s Hollywood Casino Amphitheatre.

The Tour marks the band’s first trek since their 2017 A Brief History of Everything Tour, celebrating their 20th anniversary of smash single “Yourself or Someone Like You.” Matt Nathanson will serve as direct support on the first leg, as world-renowned singer-songwriter Ben Rector is slated to tackle the second half.
