Maroon 5 has shared a new single, “Middle Ground.” The acoustically-driven track tackles frontman Adam Levine’s alleged affair that surfaced late last year. The pop-rock band is taking things in a near-country route with just an acoustic guitar backing up Levine’s vocals.

He sings wistfully on the track, Both of our mothers are terrified / And I’m crying out to an empty sky / Tell me if I hit the ground / And I fall down to my knees / Would you hear the sound?
The band is slated to perform the track on The Voice season finale on May 23, per People. Check out the track, below.
Levine was accused by an alleged former mistress of cheating on his wife, Behati Prinsloo. On top of the infidelity claims, Levine was said to have attempted to name his and Prinsloo’s child after the mistress.
“A lot is being said about me right now and I want to clear the air,” Levine wrote on Instagram at the time. “I used poor judgment in speaking with anyone other than my wife in ANY kind of flirtatious manner. I did not have an affair, nevertheless, I crossed the line during a regrettable period in my life. In certain instances, it became inappropriate; I have addressed that and taken proactive steps to remedy this with my family.”
He continued, “My wife and my family is all I care about in this world. To be this naive and stupid enough to risk the only thing that truly matters to me was the greatest mistake I could ever make. I will never make it again. I take full responsibility. We will get through it. And we will get through it together.”
Prior to the release of “Middle Ground,” Maroon 5 shared an album titled Jordi. The record was dedicated to the band’s late manager, Jordan Feldstein. The LP featured hits “Memories Remix (feat. Nipsey Hussle and YG)” and “Beautiful Mistakes (feat. Megan Thee Stallion).”
