5 Must-Hear Margo Price Collaborations

Illinois native Margo Price rose from a stalwart singer/songwriter of the Nashville music scene to a breakout country star with her 2016 album Midwest Farmer’s Daughter. Often compared to female trailblazers like Loretta Lynn and Janis Joplin, the 40-year-old talent has paved a path all her own.

Since the release of that life-changing record, Price has earned a Grammy nomination, performed on Saturday Night Live, and shared the stage with greats like Willie Nelson and Chris Stapleton. In January, she shared her fourth album Strays, which meshes traditional folk and country elements with psych-tinged vintage rock.

These five must-hear Margo Price collaborations showcase the singer/songwriter’s gritty and powerful vocal stylings:

1. “Flatland Girl”

This stellar track from Molly Tuttle & Golden Highway’s celebrated 2022 record Crooked Tree is a heartfelt ode to the heartland. The reflective collaboration is a perfect fit for Price, with lyrics that echo her own story of growing up in the rural farmlands of Illinois.

2. “You Was Born to Die”

Price, Jason Isbell, and Kyshona join Adia Victoria for this gripping take initially recorded by blues pioneer Ernest B. McTell (better known as Blind Willie McTell). “You Was Born to Die” is a haunting collaboration from Victoria’s mesmerizing third studio album, A Southern Gothic.

3. “One’s On the Way”

Released in 2021, this sparkling duet with Lynn marked a true full-circle moment for Price. She puts plenty of heart into this rendition of Lynn’s 1971 hit, penned by Shel Silverstein, recorded for the country legend’s final album, Still Woman Enough.

4. “Ragged Old Truck”

In 2022, some of country and Americana’s most celebrated artists came together to pay tribute to the late Billy Joe Shaver. One of the best collaborations on Live Forever: A Tribute To Billy Joe Shaver is this jukebox-ready version of “Ragged Old Truck,” featuring Price and fellow old-school country singer/songwriter Joshua Hedley.

5. “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man”

Seasoned string band Old Crow Medicine Show recruited Price to join them for a vintage country duet during their appearance at Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium in 2019. Their playful rendition of Conway Twitty and Lynn’s “Louisiana Woman, Mississippi Man” captures the joyful energy that both acts radiate on stage.
