Madame Tussauds New York Unveils Beyonce Wax Figure

On Thursday (July 27) at the highest outdoor sky deck in the Western Hemisphere, Edge, in New York City, civilians gawked upon what they may have thought to be Beyoncé. Though, with a closer look, this wasn’t the international superstar; rather, it was her uncanny wax doppelgänger.

The wax figure sports a recreation of the Balmain bodysuit and cape complete with a cane and bedazzled headpiece replicating the notorious Egyptian Queen Nefertiti from Beyoncé’s historical 2018 Coachella headlining performance. The wax figure mimics the regal and majestic fashion of the real Beyoncé, and to supplement this already imposing statue, the location of the Edge just bolsters the grandiose nature with its breathtaking views of New York City.

To pull off the uncanny likeness the sculpture obtains, a team of 20 of Madame Tussauds’ studio artists, sculptors, and designers gathered in London and methodically researched videos, pictures, and her facial structures in order to convey the pop-queen in the most authentic way. The figure took six months to complete.

“As one of the most significant, influential performers of the 21st century, we wanted to capture one of Beyoncé’s most impactful moments in her inspiring career,” says Head of Marketing at Madame Tussauds New York Tiago Mogadouro in a release. “She’s a visionary in music, art and fashion and we felt her look at Coachella 2018 was an embodiment of her spirit as the ultimate entertainer. What better way to celebrate Beyoncé than to immortalize that moment in wax for fans to enjoy for years to come?”

That immortalization and capturing of Beyoncé’s likeness to be perpetually viewed is exactly what Madame Tussauds aims to do with their wax figures with their infamous sculptures of Michael Jackson, Rihanna, Marilyn Monroe, Taylor Swift, and countless other statues of pop-culture icons. Thus, when one gets their own Madame Tussauds sculpture, they know their likeness and legacy is etched into history for eternity, which is awfully appropriate for the highest Grammy-winning artist of all time.
