Mac Davis Honored at 2015 BMI Country Awards

Mac Davis was named as the 2015 BMI Icon at the organization’s 63rd annual Country Awards, which were held in Nashville on Tuesday night.

Davis is the writer behind the Elvis Presley classics “A Little Less Conversation” and “In the Ghetto,” in addition to having a successful career as a solo artist. His biggest hit came in the form of 1972’s “Baby Don’t Get Hooked On Me,” which reached number one in the U.S. and Canada. Artists Luke Bryan, Rascal Flatts, Little Big Town and Mac McAnally paid tribute to Davis with performances of his most famous works.

Additionally, Rodney Clawson was named Songwriter of the Year, with writing credits on some of country’s biggest hits, including Lady Antebellum’s “Bartender,” Jason Aldean’s “Burnin’ It Down,” Florida Georgia Line’s “Dirt,” and Kenny Chesney’s “American Kids” and “Til It’s Gone.” Song of the Year was awarded to Brett Eldredge’s “Beat of the Music,” written by Eldredge, Ross Copperman and Heather Morgan. Publisher of the Year went to Sony/ATV Music Publishing Nashville, who published hits by Miranda Lambert, Luke Bryan and Eric Church.
