Bloodshot Records announced Tuesday that it has signed New Orleans-based artist Luke Winslow-King to its acclaimed roster of roots-inflected acts. The Chicago-based label will re-release Winslow-King’s latest album, The Coming Tide, in March 2013 with bonus tracks and new packaging.
“Luke initially caught our ear with his unique style, emerging from the ashes of Delta blues, New Orleans traditional jazz, ragtime, and pre-war American folksong,” the label said in a statement.
The singer-songwriter-guitarist has long been a favorite here at American Songwriter. He popped up on our radar back in 2011, when we saw him perform at Preservation Hall in the French Quarter. A Michigan native, Winslow-King first moved to the Crescent City to study composition at the University of New Orleans.
The Coming Tide features King’s partner Esther Rose as a vocalist. A video for the song “Moving On (Towards Better Days)” finds the pair in their house in New Orleans—making coffee, heading out the door for gigs, and having a party. The whimsical scenes that flash by wouldn’t be out of place in Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris and King and Rose seem like they belong more to the Roaring Twenties than modern day.
