Costco, the wholesale superstore, is no longer just a place to try tasty samples from the freezer section or pick up a gallon jar of mayonnaise. Costco is now a location to buy concert tickets. Live Nation, the live events company based in Los Angeles, Calif., has joined forces with the warehouse chain to offer an Amphitheater Concert Pack.
What does this mean? Well included in the pack, are two general admission lawn tickets to any 2008 venue brought on by Live Nation as well as six free MP3 downloads from Live Nation’s new download page, provided by Puretracks Inc. The consumers of the concert pack will also receive e-mail notifications when new concerts are scheduled in their area. The offer, which is available at 263 Costco stores across the country, will cost $39.99. Live Nation, whose contract with Ticketmaster is anticipated to expire, hopes this new alliance will keep the interest in outdoor shows alive and fill up its amphitheaters.
Live Nation’s stock, since striking a deal with Madonna in October, has declined 30 percent.
