Over six months removed from his prior solo single “Kan’t Nobody (feat. DMX),” Lil Wayne returned with a new track on Friday (September 1). Titled “Kat Food,” the song sees Wayne rattle off patented, playful innuendos for nearly five minutes, making for a welcomed return to form.

“Kat Food” is produced by Charlie Handsome, best known for work with Kanye West, Post Malone, and Travis Scott, as well as Drake and Kendrick Lamar collaborator FNZ and Rogét Chahayed, famed for placements with Doja Cat. Over the funky, punchy instrumentation, Wayne’s long-winded hook opens the track and sets a light-hearted tone, as he name-drops beloved tennis player Serena Williams and iconic magician Harry Houdini.

I’m daydreamin’, I’m Codeinin’
I’m slow walkin’, I’m floatin’, Houdini
My ho, she screamin’, for more, she fiendin’
I just turned her daydreams to wet dreams, no bikini
Ooh, no bikini, ooh, no demeanor
I just put it all up in her face, woah, Noxzema
Bad bitches all up on my case, no subpoena
Cat hangin’ out that cat suit, ooh, Serena
Ooh, Serena, ooh, Serena

Following along with the raunchy chorus, Wayne’s verses contain countless allusions to sex and women, as he aims to use as many examples relating to nature as possible.

I eat her like a shark and I still ain’t learn how to swim yet
I still ain’t fuck her friend yet
Once I do, I’ma dipset
Put a red bow on that bitch back and send her back to him gift wrapped, de nada

For much of this year, Wayne has been promoting his upcoming studio LP Tha Carter 6, continuing the storied album series he last added to in 2018. However, it’s currently unconfirmed if “Kat Food” will land on the track list for the project, or if Wayne plans to release it at all in the near future.

At the moment, Wayne is still on his Welcome to Tha Carter Tour, which has taken up most of 2023. This month, though, he’ll not only receive the BMI Icon Award at the BMI R&B/Hip-Hop Awards (September 6), but he also plans to perform at MTV’s Video Music Awards on September 12, where “Kan’t Nobody” is nominated in the “Best Hip-Hop” category.
