The MTV VMAs are always a big night for artists across all genres of music. For fans, it is a night to see some of their favorite artists bring once-in-a-lifetime performances to the stage. Tonight’s broadcast was no different, with its star-studded lineup. However, few performances captured the spirit of the awards show like Lenny Kravitz’s three-song medley which included his collaboration with Quavo.

Kravits came through the stage surrounded by smoke in true rockstar fashion, Gibson Flying V in hand, to kick off the three-song medley with “Are You Gonna Go My Way.” He followed that classic with “Human” from his latest album. Earlier in the night, the video for the song brought him a Moon Person for Best Rock Video. Quavo joined him onstage to finish the medley with their collaboration “FLY.”

Lenny Kravitz and Quavo Created a Genre-Bending Banger
Lenny Kravitz wrote and released “Fly Away” as the fourth and final single from his 1998 studio album 5. The track reached No. 12 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. It did much better on the publication’s Mainstream Rock and Modern Rock charts, topping both of them. The song also topped the charts in multiple countries, bringing Kravitz one of the biggest hits of his career. The song’s success didn’t stop at the charts. It also brought Kravitz a Grammy win for Best Male Rock Performance in 1999.
The hit song dominated rock radio in the late ‘90s and left a lasting mark on the music world. Earlier this year, Kravitz teamed up with Quavo, the former face of the rap group Migos, to breathe new life into the track with a genre-bending remix.
Quavo connected with Kravitz when he honored the rocker at a Black Music Collective Event earlier this year with a performance of “Fly Away.” Then, last month, they released the collaborative track “FLY.” The new song samples the riff from the 1998 hit. Additionally, Kravitz recorded new vocals for the song. He sings alongside Quavo on the iconic chorus and adds backing vocals on lines in some of the verses.
Along with delivering a masterful performance alongside Quavo, Kravitz won his second Moon Person for Best Rock Video for “Human” from his most recent album Blue Electric Light.
