It seems the rumors swirling since that reunion show are true: Led Zeppelin plans to fly again. At the Manson’s Guitar Show in Exeter, Devon last weekend, Bassist John Paul Jones said that the band are “trying out a couple of singers.” Singer Robert Plant has been busy over the last year touring with Alison Krauss to support their album Raising Sand, which won them a Grammy for Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals. He has said he doesn’t want to tour for at least a couple of years, but never ruled out the possibility of returning to the band. It appears the others don’t want to wait that long. After their reunion concert at London’s O2 arena last year – with Plant – Jones, Jimmy Page and drummer Jason Bonham (son of original drummer John) are ready to get on the road.
Jones confirmed that the three have been rehearsing and trying out singers, though one hasn’t been selected yet, promising we’ll know when one has. He says the plan is to record a new album and tour behind it, enthusing “what we’ve done so far sounds absolutely fantastic. When it does come, it will come, and you’ll know about it.” Jones also ensures fans that they are not searching for a Robert Plant clone, saying they don’t want to become their own tribute band. Taking a bit of a shot at Plant, Jones adds, “He really doesn’t want to make loud music anymore. We do.” On what may be a more pleasing note to fans, Jones also hinted that the reunion show may be coming to DVD in the near future. So, what do you think?
