There must be something in the water nowadays. According to recent reports, Cancer Christ’s Anthony Mehlhaff has been arrested just outside of Oakhurst, California. He faces a laundry list of charges related to a “rampage” of Yosemite National Park that took place last Wednesday. Mehlhaff is the frontman of the hardcore outfit Cancer Christ, which was set to tour with fellow rock band GWAR this year.

The 40-year-old musician has been detained by California police and faces the following charges: kidnapping, theft, vandalism, vehicle theft, first-degree burglary, reckless driving, robbery, battery, and obstructing an officer. Mehlhaff is currently being held on a $100,000 bond (as of Friday).
The events come shortly after a concerning string of social media posts by Mehlhaff, one of which included an image of a fresh tattoo that said “F*CK GWAR”. Fans also noticed that Cancer Christ had been removed from GWAR’s current tour recently, possibly due to Mehlhaff’s behavior.
The Timeline of Bizarre Events
The “rampage” began at a diner in the Buck Meadows neighborhood of Mariposa County. There, Mehlhaff allegedly approached a pregnant waitress and touched her stomach, saying “The spirits led me to you and your baby belongs to me.” He made the waitress even more uncomfortable by asking when her break was so he could “wait” for her.
From there, Mehlhaff stole drinks from other patrons and assaulted an employee at the restaurant. He sped off in his car from the restaurant before authorities could arrive, according to Mariposa County Sheriff Jeremy Briese.
Mehlhaff sped off toward Yosemite National Park. He then stripped down to his undergarments and attempted to kidnap the manager of a local store. When that failed, he stole the individual’s car and crashed it into another vehicle on a side road. Some outlets have reported that he allegedly stole a bike as well. Mehlhaff crashed the stolen car several more times before he was taken into custody near Oakhurst. After the Cancer Christ singer was arrested, he assaulted deputies during an assessment at the hospital.
“This man drove all around our county terrorizing our visitors and community members,” Sheriff Briese said in a recent statement as per the LA Times. “I am extremely happy that no one was seriously injured. This man’s behavior was erratic and dangerous.”
Mehlhaff has been unreachable for comment, and his voicemail greeting message notably tells police officers and psychiatric specialists to “f*ck off”.
