The duo’s flawless vocals and sweeping piano accompaniment serve as the perfect backing to this lovelorn tune. Macve and Del Rey reflect on the joy of a relationship’s early days, which now feels far out of reach. After mourning those happier times, they declare their intent to move forward, even if it means leaving love behind.

I’ll sit back in my suburban house
While the nights close in and the leaves turn brown
I’m not waiting for what you think I am
I know love comes and goes

Love comes and goes

“I sometimes feel my intuition wrote this song for me,” Macve said in a statement. “I was temporarily living in a Suburban house from the 50s, on the outskirts of West London. It was like a time capsule and hadn’t been changed since the 70s. There was a beautiful old piano there, and one day, I sat down, and the song came to me unexpectedly all at once. The song made perfect sense to me only a week later.

“A few months later, I visited Lana whilst in Los Angeles, and we shared new songs with each other,” she added. “I played this to her live, and that was the start of it becoming a duet. When I first heard her sing the second verse, it was like a dream; her voice was just so perfect for the song and heavenly sounding… It goes without saying that I am a huge fan of hers; she’s an inspiration to me in many different ways, so when she DM’d me, I was pretty shook (to say the least).”

Loving Memory Records

“Ever since I heard Holly’s music, I knew she had one of the most beautiful singing voices in the world,” Del Rey shared. “Her flawless, emotional vocals have inspired me over the last six years, and I love her songs, and I’m especially proud of featuring on this one.”

“Suburban House” serves as Macve’s first recorded collaboration and arrives just weeks after her stunning single “Beauty Queen.” The two tracks serve as teasers from the talented Irish-born artist’s next album. Although few details of the LP have been shared, it is expected to arrive in early 2024.

In recent months, Lana Del Ray has been out on the road supporting her latest studio album. Did You Know That There’s a Tunnel Under Ocean Blvd, which arrived in March, andserves as her ninth full-length project. The record includes collaborations with producer Jack Antonoff‘s rock band Bleachers, Father John Misty, Jon Batiste, and more.
