Kurt Cobain’s Favorite Band Is Back: Re-Meet The Vaselines

The alternative rock duo Kurt Cobain declared as “his favorite songwriters in the world” is back. The Vaselines, made up of Eugene Kelly and Frances McKee, will elease all of their catalog (much of which you’ve never heard) on Sub Pop. The retrospective is entitled Enter The Vaselines and will be out on May 5.

The Vaselines formed in Glasgow, Scotland in 1986, releasing two EPs and one album over the next three years. The two EPs, Son of a Gun and Dying For It, achieved cult like status and featured the songs “Jesus Wants Want Me For A Sunbeam,” “Son Of A Gun” and “Molly’s Lips”-each covered by Nirvana. The duo’s only full-length album, entitled Dum-Dum was issued in 1989 on 53rd and 3rd Records. The band split up soon after its release.

In 1992 Sub Pop released The Way of the Vaselines: A Complete History, which consisted of all of their previous official releases. Enter The Vaselines includes that album in full, but will also feature newly mixed and mastered versions of the songs, plus never-before heard demos and live recordings.

Of course, this release comes at a perfect time-The Vaselines will be reuniting for an upcoming tour throughout the US. The tour will kick off at Los Angeles’ El Rey Theater on May 10.
